MX5 hardtops/workshop manuals

Post by zorruno » Tue Aug 21, 2001 11:08 am

1. Where can I get a manual for a 1989 Eunos Roadster, recently imported
from Japan, with no manual at all.
You can get the Hanes or Enthusiasts manual from lots of bookshops or via
the club http://www.mx5club.org.nz/club/books/ . A workshop manual for your
year may be available through Mazda.
2. The hardtop on the car is fitted with catches at the front (like the
soft top) that connect to the windscreen frame, but it also has the same
catches on the sides near where the seat belts swivel is connected, but
there is nothing on the car frame to connect to. I take it this hardtop
must be from a later model? Can I get the parts that the catches can
connect to? Will it be worthwhile to do this?
All hard tops fit all models. Some have heated rear screens and interior
lining, but that is the only major difference. There are also at least one
aftermarket hard top available in the US that I know of (snugtop)

You need frankenstein bolts and possibly side receivers. The receivers can
be purchased and bolted into any year pretty easily - the holes for them to
bolt into are there behind the seat belt tower plastic trim.

I have used a hardtop without side receivers (cause I'm a cheapskate), it
holds fine with just the frankenstein bolts, but the rubber that it sits on
squeaks a bit going over bumps. Unless the car had a hard top at some
stage, it will not have frakenstein bolts or latch receivers.

The franky bolts are around $20 and the receivers are more like $100 each.
You may be able to get them from a wreckers like mazspare in Auckland or
even off someone elses car that doesn't use a hardtop (Swap the whole trim
so you don't leave holes). They are well sort after though, and don't
expect to pay too much less at a wreckers...

Some part numbers I have for the two items are NA01R138XB and NA02R1310G,
but can't remember where these can from or which one is which.

I hope that helps... there may be more info previously discussed in this
list - go to http://www.mx5club.org.nz/search/

cheers
