this is a personal request. My friend who does not have the internet
is having problems sourcing a softop for his 1990 maxda eunos. It was
part of his purchase deal that they would supply a new top. Are they
hard to get or is this just a ploy by the car yard to get out of the deal.
Any info would be greatfully received.

Hi Barry,
Have your friend call Doug Giles at Doug giles auto upolsterers in ChCh, he
can sort one, he's very approachable and does good work. (he's worked on my
Capri, and built a seat for my honda 750VFR)
Tell Doug "Biff" sent you, ya never know!

Hi Barry,
your friend should go back to the dealer and ask for one to be made
local, when we brought ours the soft top was not good so the dealer had one
made up from the old top at a local shop and replaced the rear window, they
use the old one as a pattern. hope this helps.

Barry,
Aftermarket replacements start from about $1100 installed. They are a
manufactured article, readily available. Your dealer should be able to
arrange this with any auto upholsterer down there, if he promised, make him
honour it.

as an aside, I hope your friend got this in writing from the dealer. I had
an arguement with the dealer I bought mine from over a similar thing.
Our non-written agreement was that the dealer would me a hardtop from Japan
for an agreed price and even after 10 visits and about 50 phonecalls, never
did. (I hadn't paid for it though) I got one cheaper here anyway, so I
wasn't worried, but once the car leaves the yard, they usually cannot be
bothered with helping ex-customers... I'm sure not all dealers are like that
though...
