I replaced mine with a basic JVC CD. The headrest speakers blew straight away.
Need replacing.
My front speakers are Alpine ones and seem OK, but distortionmay be dominated by
the headrests.

Re headrest speakers: how much & where - any suggestions. Wellington area.

Hi all,

Has anyone out there had speaker problems when upgrading from
the standard MX5 variety to a new unit?

I've tried a couple of fairly decent Sony units and they both distort
the standard speakers big-time (even at low volume). With the
standard MX5 unit, I had little problems (Maybe their trying to tell
me something).

Any help appreciated... Derek.

Change the speakers, they not that good anyway. Most problems will be speakers
being driven to hard for the head unit or vice versa OR are just not matched for
any other system. The inside of the door has got enough cavity area to fit good
speakers. I just got a MX5, New Zealand new and change the stereo system. I put
in Blauplank head unit and the matching speakers. Head unit was rated at 40W,
RMS real value about 25W with 200W 6 inch 3 way speakers. This has a great Bass
and Tweeter sound. Cost me about $650.00

When sitting in the car, the sound is distinct, with left and right seperation
and the sound appears arond the dash area, not as if it is comming from the
floor. With the top down, mixed with road noise, this system has sufficient
grunt to still give you great sound.
