Although Steve is quite correct about the blocked drains, if you view the drains from
under the car where they exit to the road, (make sure the car is well suported with
stands) you will see near the outlet that there is a little rubber flap inside the
tube that MUST be facing down towards the road, this is where the blockage usually
is, and if you use a piece of wire make sure its straight if you have a hook on it,
its possible to get it hooked up, and if you tug too hard to remove it you can pull
the drain tube out of its mounting, and its a pain to relocate it back into its location
again, had to refit a friends MX5 some time back, he was using a hooked wire.

Hi I'm Char,
Have had an MX5 for about a year now. I love it to bits. My grown up
daughters say I'm going through a mid-life crisis when I bought it but thats
fine, for whatever reason I'm hooked. Have been reading your E-Mails for a
while and found them really interesting. Have been driving round a while
hearing water sploshing around in one of my doors now I know why. I also
have another problem I've noticed when I'm reversing sometimes I can hear
this knocking which sounds like its coming from the back wheels. It sounds
like I'm running over something. Does anyone have any idea what I'm on
about? Bit of a blonde when it comes to anything mechanical.
