Slosh slosh .. water problem

Post by mx-5 » Fri Jun 08, 2001 10:03 am

Hi everyone :) Nice & crisp out there at the moment isn't it. Had a lovely
drive to Hanmer on the Sunday of the nice long weekend last week with the roof
down, very chilly but well worth it. Geez I miss summer.

Anyway ... to the point .. somehow I've managed to get my driver's door full of
water. I'm not quite sure how .. perhaps the car groomer got a bit happy with
the water sprayer or something, but I go slosh slosh everytime I pull up and
stop anywhere.

Could someone please tell me how to get the water out? I'm sure it can't be
good for the inside of the door.

Many thanks
Tina

Are you sure it is in the door as it has HUGE drain holes in the bottom. If so clean
them out with a screwdriver or similar. May pay to take the door inside panel off
and wipe out as well.
More likely to be in the sill under the door and there are drain holes where the
jack mountings are. These do get clogged up with dirt and need cleaning out with
a smiall screwdriver or piece of wire.

Good luck

Slosh slosh .. water problem

Hi,

Had this problem on my old Mk1 It was caused by a small tear in the roof
very low down below the body line just behind the door. When it rained hard
the sort of gutter created by the roof and the body would fill with water
and leak into a cavity behind the door and slosh about just as described -
no easy way to get the water out so I sold the car - the ash tray was full
anyway.

HAHAHA ian - oh, well - at least you don't sell each time you run out of
fuel...

seriously though, here is a good place to look. There was a mazda Service
bulleting released on the subject

That "gutter" created by the roof and body is supposed to drain out just
behind and below the doors. If you run a hose there you should see water
freely running out under the sills.

O.K. The propper fix for this problem is as follows:

You shouldnt have to drain the water out of the
sills-its never ment to be there in the first place.
The reason it is in there is because the softtop
drains are blocked. The drains are inside the car
located beind each seatbelt tower behind the head
rest.
You can only see them with the hood up- youll need a
tourch. The easyest fix is to clear the drains using
a sturdy piece of material about 0.5-0.8m long (I used
a piece of brass bronzing rod (about 4mm thick)).
The easyest way to drain the sill is to remove one of
the 10mm bolts under the sill, drive around for a
couple of days, then put the bolt back in.

(I found out the hard way- I came out to my car after
a big rainstorm and the entire floorpan was flooded! ,
YAY!)

Easy, eh?
