Wheel

Post by Shane O'Dea » Mon Jun 04, 2001 11:11 am

Hi all,

I'm new to this list and have an immediate request.

Unfortunately, we had an accident in our BRG MX5 and need a new wheel. The
repairer reckons he cannot find a supplier in NZ. It is an import. Any
ideas?

Regards,

Shane O'Dea

Thanks zorruno.

I think it is OEM. I'll get back to you.

zorruno,

Here are the specs for the wheel that I require.

'Buck Enkei' Japan
15x6JJ
'Racing' on centre cap
40 rivets on the outside of the wheel
7 spokes

Apparently, it is a 2 or 3 piece wheel.

Regards,

Shane

Hi all,

Further to my last email, I include a picture of a wheel as an attachment to
see if anyone can help me out.

For those who don't know, we had an accident and one of the wheels needs
replacing. The mechanic says he cannot find the same wheel in this country.

Thanks,

Wheel

Shane,

Many MX-5s come into New Zealand with aftermarket Japanese wheels. Most of
these wheels will have never been available here, and therefore when you
damage one it can be impossible to find a replacement. Your insurance
company may have to come up with money towards a complete replacement set of
wheels.

Wheel

I looked at it and thought... Hmmm that looks like a Racing Beat
wheel... then I looked closer and noticed it even says Racing
Beat...

Racing Beat are an American firm who have specialised in RX-7
modifications for about 25 years, and then started making Miata bits
when they started coming out ten(ish) years ago.

Many of the online vendors who advertise at www.miata.net and in Miata
magazine are Racing Beat agents, and we even have a Racing Beat agent
here in Auckland. They are called Rotary Performance, on the North
Shore. You could try them...

Also, depending on how badly dammaged the wheel is, it may be able to
be repaired.
There may be several places that can do this, but the one I know of is
Arrow wheels. They share the same premisis as Mag & Turbo Wharehouse
in New Lynn. They can unbend, weld on extra bits, machine back to
shape, etc. Take the wheel to them (or simmilar) and get a quote on
repair...

They can also repair more minor dammage like curb scuffing, or out og
roundness from potholes.

Good luck,

Fletch.

Thanks Fletch.

The wheel does have 'Racing' in the centre cap but I think it is an Enkei RS
Evolution. I will check it out with Rotary Performance though.
