damn,
I took my mx5 for a run at lunch, and the clutch is slipping under
load (5000-6000 rpm) in 2nd and 3rd gear.
Can anyone recommend someone good/honest in Auckland to check the
clutch out and see if it is slipping or needs adjustment?
If it needs replacing what cost should I be looking at?
Thanks
Rob

I had the same thing happen to me a couple of years ago, one Friday on
the way to work.
I got good service from Sterling Brake & Clutch in Onehunga. I phoned
them around 8:30 am and I picked up the car, fixed at 4:00 PM.
A new clutch kit was fitted and some leaking oil-seals replaced for
about $600 all up.
I think it was about half and half parts and labour.
This was the day before a club track-day at Pukekohe, so I was really
pleased to be able to get same day service.
Fletch.

I just got my clutch done by Andrew at Bavarian Motors near Wairau Park,
Auckland. I know he did an amazing job because I watched him do it. He
showed me that my clutch was completely worn, the pressure plate was broken
and the clutch slave cylinder was leaking. Yip... a genuine clutch
hat-trick. AND he got my drive shaft reconditioned, the joints were worn and
sticking. AND he skimmed the flywheel.
I have pictures of the wear/damage and the new clutch if anyone is
interested.
Incidentally the symptoms for the above problems were that the clutch was
starting to slip, I couldn't change gear and my clutch fluid was
disappearing. I made a couple of very interesting (and stressful) drives
with only fourth gear available (one home and one to the garage).
