I am in the process of assembling another engine for
my 1990 MX-5.
The engine is a 1996 1.8L Turbo'd using:
IHI VJ20 turbo boosted to 14 psi,
8.2:1 compression ratio,
big frontmounted intercooler,
water sprayer,
GT-X pistons (weighted and ballanced),
GT-X rods (pollished and shotpeened),
GT-X head,
2.5 inch mandrel bent freeflow exhaust with no
mufflers
Lighteded flywheel with h/duty clutch,
Full Link Plus engine management system
What sort of HP sould i get, (I am expecting 250-300HP
at the flywheel) what do you think?
**IF ANYONE IS THINKING OF DOING THIS, BEWARE IT IS
VERY EXPENSIVE JUST ON THE MODS ABOVE IT HAS COST ME
BETWEEN $8000 AND $10000 USING NEW GENUINE MAZDA PISTONS, RODS, SEALS ETC..
For anyone interested,
besides the engine mods, other mods include:
Full bodykit,
15" mags,
Lowered on GAB suspension,
full 6 point rollcage,
MOMO race seats,
MOMO 3" harneses,
MOMO steering wheel
four extra VDO gages (Exhaust temp, boost, turbo oil pressure, oil temp)
surge tank with two fuel pumps
Personlised plates - GTXMX5
This car should be fully up and running in about three
months, and you will possible see it in Performance
Car Magazine (Hopefully!)
Thanks for the input

Going by what the guys in the US are getting at 15psi on a 1.8 you should be
able to see around 250hp at the rear wheels. Join up on www.miatapower.net ,
you'll find a whole lot of others there with similar to what you have, and a
lot of link / turbo tuning knowledge. Also for US$50 you can buy the
upgraded US written software for the Link from Flying Miata... a huge
improvement over the Link written software.
Gary
PS You could add another few hp by installing a Voodoo shift knob... and I
can help with that!
