link computers

Hi,
Can anyone give me the word on Link computers or other types? How much do
you gain and what's it worth?

Thanks
Dave

link computersHow much you gain is dependant on what other modifications you
have, and how well it is tuned.

With no other mods apart from removing the MAF (its not required with the
Link's MAP), you should be able to reap 10HP, maybe even 15? But the real
advantage of the Link is that it allows you to make other modifications that
are outside the envelope possible with the standard ECU. You can put in big
cams (or a turbo) which have fuel/air requirements outside what the stock ECU
can handle...

I expect regular poster Gary Morrison will pipe in... he actually has one
(whereas I only dream of one...)

Anyone got an up-to-date price on the Mk!! with knock-control and keypad?

Fletch.

link computersDavid,

Fletch has covered a lot of it in his reply. My car (awaiting repair - you
have seen the pics!) has a Link. It has allowed me to maximise the performance
after all of the changes that improve breathing... and as Fletch says the
removal of the MAF on the 1.6 is worth a bit. I'd say that that, plus a
shorter intake with a cone filter was worth about 6-7hp. I tried to dyno
before and after everything, but I can't quantify the Link alone. I do intend
to try some modified cams in it in due course, and without the Link that
wouldn't be possible (not if you vary far from stock that is) If you decided
to add a supercharger or turbo then the Link really starts to reap rewards.
Its very easy to program, and with the most recent software developed for it
in the USA it is becoming a very capable and sophisticated ecu at a reasonable
cost. Still about $2k though when you add keypad and a knock sensor. Latest
software revisions enable interface to a laptop, and some software is being
written currently to make use of that.
