soft top?
You can have a patch glued on... not especially pretty, but it will
keep the rain out, and save quite a few dollars...
I'm sorry to hear of your bad-luck... I've only heard of about five
slashed tops in as many years... to have it happen three times to your
car really sux... is it always the same place? (home or work, nearby
shopping centre), or is it at various random places?

soft top?
Try getting Als Upholstory to repair it until you can afford a hard top or
new soft top. I think this would be better than getting a second hand one
and having that vandalised too. You could even find some vinyl glue/tape
and repair it yourself pretty cheaply.

You might strike it lucky - I found a black hard top with internal lining &
demister for not much over $1k. It was a little bit scratched, but nothing
that a bit of touching up couldn't fix.
You don't have to paint it if it is black, many people use black roofs on
coloured cars - remember the soft top is usually black anyway.

If you are looking for any colour hardtop with the idea of painting it
silver here is a tip: Don't buy a red one. The red colour will bleed thru
the paint. I bought a red one and it cost me more because the painter had
to remove every scrap of red paint before priming and re-painting in white.
Regards,
Clive.

What do you think the chances are to find a hard top for our recently
purchased white 1994 mx5 ?
I emailed 'mx5mart@paradise.net.nz' a few weeks ago, but have not had any
response from there.
Thanks

Chances of finding a white hard top? Ask Clive... I'd say pretty slim in
NZ. But any colour can be painted. I wasn't even looking for one and found
a good deal that I couldn't really turn down.
There were 12 Hardtops for sale on the club web site in the last year
ranging from $1100 to $2000. Only one was white.
(I went to http://www.mx5club.org.nz/forsale/ and searched for 'hardtops'
and unchecked 'Do not include Expired Adverts ')
Remember that all hardtops from all years will fit all other years. Some
tops come with internal lining and a demister however so may be more
expensive.
I think Ross (MX5 Mart) may be away for a couple of weeks. Why not post a
wanted to buy ad on the site? You could always buy from a Mazda dealer...
Last time I checked, a new hard top from Mazda was $8000 (joke...)
cheers

Unfortuantely the attatcks were random and happened in Remuera
and the city. Both times the car was out in the open or under
lights in a busy area and had an alarm activated? I'm actually
saving for a hard top but the cost of buying a second hand one and
then painting it to match my silver mx5 will set me back $2K. Now
that I need a new soft top as well this sets me back another 6
months. By then it will be summer!!

Well if you hear of anything this cheap please let me know. I
would consider a black top but would prefer silver.
