first ever...... List Admininistrator Rant

Post by MX5 Club E-Administrator » Mon Nov 04, 2002 10:44 pm

Hi Everybody. Rant time.

I think it is about time we stuck to MX5s & closely, rather than loosely
related subjects.

Sorry to be a party pooper - and this is not directed at any one list member
but there are quite a few people on this list now, and the number of emails
per day are increasing rapidly. Many are bordering on wildly off topic, or
simple 'yes me too' posts.

The details about joining this list say it is an open forum, and I don't
want to change it, but I also don't want people to complain to me (and they
do - and did) that things get off subject too often.

Hey - this is my first ever real list administrator rant - after 3 years!
You've all been pretty well behaved so far!

A couple of tips below, please read. Also now might be a good time to
refresh your knowledge of this page:
http://www.mx5club.org.nz/emaillists/nzmx5list/tips/

1/ If a question is asked again, try and direct them to the page of a
previous answer in the archives, rather that repost a full answer to a
question. It is easy to find, just post the link to a previous email - the
links won't ever change (or shouldn't anyway). All emails are archived and
are searchable - back from the first ever one. (yes - even the infamous "top
off" ones from sept 01). This is quicker, saves space on the website
archives, and gives people less to read if they've seen it before.

2/ Try a search - you'll be amazed...

3/ Try and use 'Plain text' format for your emails rather than fancy 'HTML'.
Your mail program will probably allow you to set that. It generally makes
things easier to read.

4/ Please strip off all the redundant last 10 emails from the bottom of your
post that you are replying to. You only need to save the little bit of text
that is relevant to your reply - not the other 50 lines that someone else
wrote. This also saves space in the archives and reading time.

5/ Feel free to post anything that people may be interested in, but if the
discussion continues among just a few people and is not really MX5 related,
it is better to chat amongst yourselves - off list.

Just playing Mum! Now back to your regularly scheduled MX5 broadcast...
cheers
