Engine Swaps.

Post by d.millar » Sat Oct 12, 2002 10:37 pm

Hi to All,

Anyone know of any Miata forums or similar that deal with engine swaps on Mk1
MX5s? Maybe a V6 of some description?
I dont't really want to go down the the super or turbo path..
I understand that Mazda have 2 distinctive V6 engines from the 90's. The 929
Sentia V6, and the MPV V6 engine ( narrow width)

I've seen pictures of the Mustang powered Miata...not kosher really.

Any ideas?

cheers
David Millar

if you go to good old www.miataforum.com and scroll down the list of =
topics, one is dedicated entirely to engine swaps...

There has been discussion in the past of the Mazda K-series six, and =
although some people dont beleive them, Mazda insiders claim that the =
engine is designed to run canted over on an angle to fit transversely =
under bonnets, and that if you try and turn it up-right, as would be =
required for longitudinal mounting, it runs into camshaft or crankshaft =
oiling problems...

Just out of interest...
Neil Fraser (apparently) is using a 2.5 Mazda V6 in his Fraser racing car.
Due to the nature of his cars, I can't imagine him using the 90 degree
Sentia V6 (physically quite a big engine) - I thought it was the 60 degree
2.5 all alloy FWD based V6 from the TX5/626 driving a RWD set-up. If this
works in a Fraser, it would surely work in an MX5.
Can anyone clarify exactly what set-up he's using?
