Electric window mod

Post by Grant » Sun Oct 06, 2002 4:04 pm

I finally got around to modifying the windows so they operate with the key
off. I did this by cutting the wire from the window fuse from the fuse box
inside the car. The wire was cut back from the fuse box and bullet connectors
installed so it can be returned to normal if required. I added a fuse holder
for the windows and connected this to the battery feed to the ignition key.
There was already an unused wire attached here from some previous owners alarm
installation. Used bullet connectors for this as well to allow the connection
of the fuse holder (same type of fuses as original) then connect to the window
feed.
While probing around under the steering column, I found a Crimestopper
Gargoyle car alarm. This is all wired in to the car with extra pin switches on
the bonnet and boot, so now I know what has been installed. It has the starter
motor disable function installed as well. Could have been interesting if it
got set so the car wouldn't start! Found the owners manual on the internet and
have proved it works. Just got to get a couple of the remotes for it.
A successful Sunday morning's work.
This is on a 1992 BRG Roadster.
It's very convenient to be able to operate the windows without the key. Just
don't play with them as it could be a long walk with the battery flat.

Take a look at the DSE teachable remote with four buttons for $65.
Brilliant if you have a two cars and a garage.

Dunno how you will teach it without something to copy though...

Thought of those but the alarm uses a rolling code remote. The DSE units
can't handle that. I believe the remotes for this alarm are available (with
instructions on setting them up) for $70.00 each, including GST and freight.
If so, I'll get a couple. Got to be cheaper and a lot easier than buying and
installing a new alarm system. Looks like I can add a remote boot release to
it as well. Very handy.

won't work for rolling code remotes unfortunately - which most modern
alarms are, including that one (and should be these days so nobody can copy
them with a $40 learning remote...). Even my garage door is rolling code
now
