Hi, I did a search for "advanced timing" on the NZ lists,
but didn't find any discussion.
What are people's experience with running 91 or 96 Octane
with the timing set to 14 degrees ?

Do you recommend higher octane for 14 degree timing ?

sorry I think the database was re configuring at the time. There are about
100 hits for timing advance now.
PS - I run 96, and 16 Degrees - occasional detonation if I ever run 91

it's more likely, but not guaranteed, that you'll need
more octane with the timing bump.
If you're like me and want the most bang for your buck
(ie stay w/ 91 octane), after advancing if it pings
just dial it back a little until it stops pinging.
Scribe a pencil mark across crank angle sensor
beforehand so you know where to set it back to if
necessary! I had to resort to this deviousness since
I never used a timing light ...

Most people report that advancing the timing to 14 degrees still allows the
use of 91 octane without problems. Mine is at around 16 deg and I find that
I have to use 96. Others (Gary M?) have used an 18 degree setting in the
past and I assume 96 octane?
Also, thanks to Gary Morrison for a nice dyno graph too.
Seems to show the advanced timing kicks in at about 3,000 rpm.
