Shipping goods from the States

Post by Mathew » Thu Sep 19, 2002 9:49 am

I think it was somewhere on this list that I read about a service in the states that repackages and posts goods to other countries, so that you can order stuff from companies that usually only supply North America. My brief attempt at using the search engine failed to find the mention. Can anyone remember who I'm talking about?.

Matt,
Mike Pearson was the person who was in the process of shipping
rear lights using toship.com.
I emailed him last week to ask how he got on, but no reply yet.
Cheers

Hi, I don't know where that particular email went to, but I read
this one.

The site was toship.com. It's actually a one man band, Aaron
Watson. He's generally pretty slack answering emails. I never
got the lights shipped in the end (see the next story). I am
having something else shipped through him now, so I'll let you
know how it turns out.

In general, unless you're shipping something light - expect to pay the earth
from the U.S. Here's an online calculator for the US Mail service:
http://ircalc.usps.gov/speed.asp?Countr ... es=0&cmdSu
bmit=Continue&Contents=1
Of course change the weight to what you require in the link.

As an aside:
I was shipping Altezza lights, from Procarparts.com. They
didn't ship them and are refunding my money. Apparently they
had so many complaints about the quality of them, that they're
seeking another supplier. After waiting for 8 weeks, I've
told them to refund me my money.

I can recommend this shipping/payment site for Europe:
http://www.globaltradingsupport.net/pri ... aders.html
Again, it's a one man band, but he's been really good. Always
keeps in touch.

Maybe there's scope for a NZ equivalent if anyone wants to set one up.

Just to show that not all online sites are ripoffs, and that you can save
money - I recommend this site for watches: http://www.capitalwatches.com. I
had to replace a lost watch recently. I rang my local store and asked if
they would give discount for cash. They said "nope". I rang another store -
the manager would have to ring me back. They never did. So I ordered online,
through Capitalwatches. They delivered to New Zealand within 10 days, saving
me 40%. I wish NZ businesses would not make it so hard to do business with
them.
