HI,
I just need a bit of advice about my soft top. I had the back window replaced
last summer and now the zip is hard to do up, missing teeth every so often, I
took it back to Doug Giles Upholstery and he said he can replace the slide,
but to add to my worries over the last few months I haven't been able to clip
up the front of the top properly, the right side is ok but the left side
either needs someone else to help push it into place before the clip will grip
properly or I have to leave the clip closed but it hasn't clipped onto the
other part so therefore it leaks in the rain! When they replaced the window is
it possible they made it too tight or do you think it's something wrong with
the clip?
Thanks
Diana

the catches are adjustable, open the offending catch and you'll find a small
plastic cover in the middle that hinges, prise this back and it will reveal a
long small nut, you can move the locking catch locator back and forth by
turning this nut by hand, hope this solves your problem, also make sure the
peg on the catch locates to the windshield as well.
good luck

The front clamps are adjustable. When the clamp is open you will see a
threaded rod and nut with a plastic cover over it. Pivot the cover back and
you can turn the nut to loosen or tighten the clamp. If you're not confident
about doing this take it back to the upholsterer.

Diana,
It sounds like your upholsterer doesn't know what he is doing. As MC says, the catches are easily adjustable. Also the whole roof can be adjusted a few millimeters backwards or forwards which could solve your problem too. Let me know if you want specific instructions for that.
As for your problem with the missing teeth. It sounds like your zip might need replaced. I'm not convinced just replacing the slider will help, but you can get new sliders from Mazda for about $25 so it might be worth a try.
If you are in Auckland, I don't mind having a look at it for you, or if you want a professional, Al from Al's upholstery knows what he's doing.
Cheers

The zip needs to be zipped and unzipped with the top unclipped from the
windshield to remove any tension.

My jellybean has the exact same problem but I prefer to blame theIt sounds like your upholsterer doesn't know what he is doing. As MC

fact that the roof is generally stuffed rather than that the guy who
replaced the window x years ago was no good.
I'll try adjusting it as described but at the moment I'm really
holding out for a new roof. I guess many people on this list have a
roof more than 10 years old.
