Brakes

Post by John McCosh » Thu Aug 08, 2002 1:05 pm

Just took my MX5 for a warrent and the warrent place was concerened about
the brakes they came back with a reading of 10 for each wheel which they
thought was very low. They havn't failed it on the brakes but just had a
concern. Does anyone know what the reading should be between.

Those machine readings are like saying 'how long is a piece of string. If it's
even and you can lock the wheels thats all you need.

The answer is yes to both, and in the end they have passed it

I have always felt that the MX5's brakes are something special but I
guess that has more to do with tyres, suspension, weight
distribution, frame stiffness etc than to do with actual friction at
the disk.

I love the way that you can take big nasty bites out of the brake
pedal and the whole world simply slows down without any fuss.

Mind you they went a bit spongy on me as I turned the last corner
into Piha last weekend... Probably cos of the dithery guy in front
of me whose rhythm was completely different from mine.
