rust-->WOF

hi all

does rust around the windshield make a car un-warrantable? Is it legally repairable? i'm looking at a cheap "beater" as backup transport, but thinking it'd make a nice project car ... (an '81 A1 model Golf, FWIW)

obviously the mx5 is too reliable for me!!
