And be a waver! I saw five roadsters on the motorway going over the (Auckland) harbour bridge and back today- only one other top down, only one wave back - cheers Mr DANG4R!Go you good thing! What fine taste in cars you have- and you must have driven a few in your job I imagine..

Chrissy, to be a real MX5 nut you have to consider the top as a last resort
to prevent you from getting soaked in one of:
a) Hailstorm (hail does NOT get slipstreamed over the top at any speed)
b) Torrential downpour, the sort where the wipers just move the lake from
one side of the windscreen to the other
c) In town when speeds tend to be below the speed where the rain doesn't
come in.
You have to have the windows up and a windblocker makes a big difference
too.
Having said that I got some funny looks in Rotorua two weeks ago when I was
stopped at the lights top down with the rain coming in. The shower only
lasted 5 minutes though and the seats (and me) had dried out within 20
minutes when the sun came out.
The top is generally necessary to keep the warmth in. The MX5 has a good
enough heater that all you need is a woolly hat, gloves, scarf and jacket
to drive one in sub-zero temperatures for long distances and still feel
comfortable.

I would have to agree that anyone caught driving their roadster with the top
up in less than tsunami/ heavy hail conditions should be probably flogged
publically and/or have their vehicle confiscated.
Nothing better than a cold night with top down and heater on. (Summer sun
just burns the thin spot up top...)
Phil.

I just put milk out for the cat, it is definately warm enough for that top
down I guess but the spits of rain are kinda putting me off - I will however
promise to try the drive to work (15mins on open road) "Top Down" and in any
case my friends saw the need to buy me nipple warmers for my birthday so
that I could do that in the winter!!
That is my sharing "not top up" experience with the group!!
Perhaps I am a closet MX5 nut!

Hi all
I drive my 91 hard all the time and I would very rarely get less than 500k's
per tank.

He He, oh dear Chrissy... It was drizzling a bit this morning, nowhere
near enough to tempt the top up :p (30 mins drive to work) Still, I start a
new job on Monday, working mostly from home, so I'll miss the drive - won't
miss trying to get back across the bridge in the evening though
Muhahahahahah...

ok, its just a manual one. Are these up all the time, or retractable?
And i guess my question really is: where can i get a replacement? does repco have a instant swap, or do mazda do a good price?

Chrissy, you will probably find that you can go for a drive top down AND
dry the washing at the same time. There is enough room on the radio antenna
for a couple of shirts to be pegged...
