Wheel Alignment specs.

Hi Matt,
Sorry to disagree with Gary, but I've found his specs to give far too much
understeer and poor directional stability.
I'm using 1.3 degrees neg camber on rear, 1.5 neg on front, approx 5 degrees
pos caster and slight toe in front and rear.
I don"t think 17"s are the way to go either but it sounds like they 're
already on.

Is there any maximum difference in settings from one side to the other. For example how much difference in camber settings would be allowable from right to left? is half a degree acceptable difference.

Hi Lou,

You're probably still pretty close to what Fletch recommended with almost
0.5 degree difference between front and rear. Is your car lowered? With mine
now back on standard springs the max front camber you can get is >just< -0.5
degrees and no more. I know you can get more with the thing lowered an inch
or two as it was possible on the previous springs.

Mathew,
not to me its not,
a good alignment shop should get it just about right, but it takes a bit of
time, when Wairau wheel alignment did my car it took an hour and a half,
because i insisted they get both sides as close as possible, and they did,
and they didn't charge me any extra which i was prepared to pay, your car
puts out more HP than most of the people who made comments on wheel
alignment to this list, so they wont know what the extra HP will do to a
MX5, Lou is an experienced wheel alignment guy and as you know his is
supercharged so i tend to listen to him more than those with stock 5's, my
turbo 5 puts out 171.4BHP at the back wheels so i want it right, of course
you should decide your self what you want your settings to be, but its a
must to get both sides the same or at least pretty close, half a degree,
especially camber is not acceptable to me.

Whats interesting is to watch that newly aligned car on the alignment rig
display when you sit in the drivers seat. Or add a passenger...

Whoopps, no I just noticed you have more neg camber on front than rear. That
is really wierd Lou, never, never have I seen anyone do that. Does it rotate
in the rain?

Yeah!Lou always likes to be radical Gary, i tried -1.5 on the front and found to much
oversteer thats why i dropped mine back to -1 ended up right for me, but Lou is using
15ins wheels against my 16ins wheels which might make a small difference and i use
stiffer springs, thats why people have to set their car up to their style of driving
and the mods done to their car, i have probably followed Lou more times than anyone
else in the wet and dry for about 10yrs now and never ever seen his car have a problem,
most people have a problem keeping up with him.
Ray :-)
