Searching for SHGZDA

Post by Penny Sarfati » Thu Apr 18, 2002 7:24 pm

Hello

I am not subscribed to your list but wondering if you can help me with a
request. I am trying to track down the owner of an MX5 with the plate
SHGZDA. The car is painted up with a Union Jack like the Austin Powers car
from the movie.

We are organising a promotion surrounding the release of Austin Powers 3 and
wanted to know if the owner is open to using the car for promotional
purposes (short term).

Thanks for your assistance

I already suggested vinyl striping to Penny last week. I believe the shgzda
is a vinyl job anyway.

She can use mine if she pays for the striping :) And my plate is suitable
too as D4NGER is my middle name...

The car in question is owned by Rays Rentals trading as Alternative Car
Rentals.
I believe a Ray Williams owns the company. He is a well known Porshe man.

I remember seeing it when the last austin powers movie hit the scenes, think
it's an actual paint job rather than vinyl, he was a bit of a fanatic (from
the news story) so I'm sure he'd be up for it.
And why isn't he a member? :-)

Well,

I am fairly new to this concept of communication, I prefer good old snail
mail (more personal), but I have a 1990 1.6L Eunos, red, with a Union Jack
all over it.
It has been this way for about two years, and was done in the spirit of
Austin Powers. It even has the number plate 'OBHAVE', and a
soon-to-be-removed bumper sticker on the rear passenger flank asking 'do I
make you horny baby?'. The Union Jack work is all vinyl application, which
means the original colour is visible, the blue and white is vinyl.
It is starting to show a few stone chips, but looks great, as I wash it
regularly and wax it twice a year.
No modifications have been done to the body or engine, though it now has a
K&N air filter, just to breath a little easier.
Could this be the car in question?

It has been to Auckland a couple of times for quick weekend getaways, as it
is Wellington based, and even done a trip to Christchurch down the east
coast.

I must confess, I did it more for fun, and for my unusual attraction to the
Union Jack and all things British. I do not need to tell you that I have an
Austin Powers watch and associated underwear, as well as assorted pieces of
paraphernalia, both Austin Powers and Union Jack related, do I?

Were you the guy on TV when the first new austin powers movie hit us?

Any sign-writing business can get the vinyl, cut it to your design,
and apply it...

A pattern consisting completely of straight lines, like the Union
Jack, or my Cobra stripes should be able to be applied by any
competent sign-writer in their sleep...

Yep, its just how much I really want to do it. I love the OBHAVE one, but
can I live with it? Still it is removable, and I was a bit concerned that
two union jack striped MX5's in Auckland may be a bit much!!! But...

Yep, thats the one I saw a few weeks ago! I remember the Rego... Where did
you get the vinyl cut, and how much? (if you don't mind me asking) I love
it. I want the 'Shaguar' look for mine :) On the other hand I could just
hold out until I can afford an E-Type erm...

The vinyl was cut as it was being applied. First, lines were drawn all over
my baby, then the two colours were applied, this took about a full day and a
bit. Because an MX5 has rather a curvacious body, the vinyl could not just
be cut into strips and then applied, as this would lead to pinching and
creasing.
All up, using high performance vinyl to match the gloss of the original
paintwork, it cost $1000.
Concept Signs in Lower Hutt did it for me, and a bang up job they did too.

Hi Henry - yours was the one I have seen, in Wellington a few times. It is
a great MX5 specimen! Last time I was there I waved - but then realised I
was in an MR2...

This must mean that there is an Auckland one also now with the SHGSTA plate.

I have copied yours and other replies to Penny of DDB in case she hasn't
seen the replies (she is not subbd to this list) & she may get in touch with
you.

Another mystery solved by the NZ MX5 list...

Having inspected Henry's car at close range I agree that they did a brilliant job.

It does indeed belong to Ray. It was done up for an Austin Powers theme
company (Peace Software)Christmas party.

Have forwarded Penny's contact details.

Nig.
