Yea, I might be interested, just depends on the price. All I'm after is
accelleration, I couldn't give a damn wether it can do 280km/h.

Hi there
My friends always tell me I am a sick person as I really like the sound of a
well tuned Wankel.
So now to a Question, does anyone have an idea what this type of engine
change would cost?
(will do most of the work myself) so what is the cost for a 2nd hand 13B
wankel Turbo/computer,
Certification, diff,adaptorplate for gearbox...

Greetings, Gang!!!
I notice some of us are stating the toys we own at the end of our e-mails...
I notice some of us beleive Rotaries ruin MX_5's...Waddya gunna think if/when Mazda uses the new RENESIS ROTARY in the next MX-5?!!185kw out of the factory should see good acceleration times for all you drag racers out there...
Darryl I welcome your valuable opinions and knowledge, as do most of us...
I had a race with a 3.0L 550Spyder PORSCHE replica the other day...started out from a roundabout in 1st at 30kp/h hit the red in 1st, 2nd 3rd...could'nt hear my own engine 'cause of the flat six screaming ahead of me...and stuck on his tail the whole way...through the twisties MAAAATE!
If i wanna drag some one I'll buy another RX-7turbo.HAD a Series IV-320hp!
If I wanna shift my family I'll use the SR20de'd Primera TE
If I wanna head splitting grin to keep me in love with driving cars I'll take my MX-5!
Great vibes on this thread you lot

Actually, thats not really true... the 1.8 is faster than the 1.6..
but not buy as much as it should be, due to extra mass in crash safety
devices...

1.6 were all rated at 116HP
1.8 from '94-97 were 128-133 HP
New shape 1.8's got about 140HP, and the 2001 with VVT claims to have
150HP

GO Darryl,
I agree with you!
I had an old Capri, with a horrid v4; well it gave up the ghost so I
decided a Piranha was for me.
In South Africa Ford put a 302 Windsor in one and I thought why not,
blue printed balanced, Edelbrock high rise {wee bulge in bonnet) Holly
750 double pump add shot peened rods and and a sweet cam and off ya go.
Not to forget the Muncie gearbox... sweet as, it went
like a cut snake and after a few suspension mods would go around corners
like a slot car.
A lot of people said it was all wrong, too much weight in the front, CG
all wrong ... until they drove it, ya couldn't wipe the grin
off their faces with a wet rag!
So I believe its horses for courses my MX is a sweet wee car, goes ok,
handles very well in wet or dry, and any driver who is a driver will
always want more HP, unless the other 1/2 wont have it! (Or the expense)
So I have found a way around the problem, when I feel the need for a bit
of cut and thrust on the port hills I take the MX, when I want to blow
everything to the weeds I take the VFR 750 Honda for a walk, problem solved :)
Keep ya wheels turning and the revenue man at bay

Anyway...
I just put some yokohama a539 tyres on my 14" RAYS rims - replaced the 520s
that were on there.
They are REALLY good - grip is excellent - they also seem to have a smoother
ride (I have adjustable konis and eibach springs) and they are quieter too.
Haven't had a chance to try them in the wet - but paul at the pits says they
rock in the wet too.
$160 each - can't complain
(try buying tyres for a large motorcycle sometime)
Happy camper.

Yes I saw that. Good news I thought too. Apparently its because Mazda NZ
have had, or have seen the demand grow and so have beento Mazda Japan and
now get better rates from them.
I went down to my local Mazda dealer yesterday to re price a rebuild kit
(seals gaskets etc) for our 20B. The parts are now supposed to be about 20%
cheaper. Thats good when our last seal kit for our Cosmo's 20B cost $4000!

I was thinking you were pointing me to what is actually on page 40. That MPS
MX-5 is awesome, have read about it before. Very nice, quad throttle body
etc, now where talking.

Well we are selling a supercharged 13B (running) for $7000 with g/box etc,
that would be interesting.
Well you can get a import 13B Turbo and g/box for $1500, get rid of the
factroy ECU, or you can usualy pick up a rebuilt ported engine for anywhere
up to $3-4000, then you just need an IDA Webber.
Microtech ECU $1970 with handcontroller, or Haltech E6K for $2600 (far
better ECU), don't even consider a Link. Fuel pump upgrade about $600 max.
Diff, well if Kazz or Cusco make a unit for the MX-5 this would realy
probably do (axles a different strory) but would cost anywhere around $2500
maybe more. A Toyota Hilux LSD rear end conversion wouls maybe be around
$2000. These are very strong and light with very good ratio's available too.
Certification is around $300-350? the last I heard.
Engine mounts etc you can make your self I would say.
lots of other little things but thats a rough idea.
