Are there any drivers out there around the 6' mark or taller who have
modified/ changed their seats for better visability/ comfort.
I'd be interested in hearing what seats installed or any ideas anyone has
regarding modifying the stock units.
Thanks
Mike

I haven't done it myself (6'3") but there is information on removing foam from
the lower cushion in the Garage section at www.miata.net

I'm 6' and got much better driving comfort by simply removing the driver's
footrest. I don't have a problem with pedal placement, just need my left
leg stretched out for all the bits where gear changing is not involved. You
can't manage it with ultra wide modern style shoes though - don't fit
through the gap.

Ideally I'd have a footrest that is half the depth of the stock unit.
Planning to ask the neighbour to knock something up in his workshop some
time, just haven't got around to it yet.

Hi Fletch,
Thanks for the pointer to miata net. I might rip the drivers seat out one of
these weekends and check it out.

Hi Tim,

thanks for the tip. I've thought about how much more comfortable it might be
without the footrest. I used to dirve an old Chrysler Valiant station wagon
, which had heaps of space for your feet. I'll try removing that rest
(though I've got wide feet anyway) and see how it goes...:)

Hi Mike
I did this modification of the seat last year, not that difficult but take
some time.
Some "pointers"
1.Use a electric kitchen knife when you cut the foam ( it is a really pain
using a ordinary knife)
2.Cut only out foam from the "bum" area so you come lower in the seat.
3.When you modifie the lower back cushion so you come futher back, i removed
more whe 50mm and it is still comfortable.
If you are in the Auckland area we could meet up and you could have a test
"sit in" before you take to the knife.

Hi John,
Thanks very much for your kind offer. I'll pass for the moment as I'm still
in two minds about keeping the car. It has caused me so much trouble and
expense in the short time I've had it (Some due to having to get the same job
done twice due to what I think is faulty workmanship.)
So I'm trying to get it ready to sell on the one hand, and on the other still
looking for ways to enhance it so's I enjoy it more if I do decide to hang on
to it.

I'll keep your offer in mind if thats O.K. and depending on what happens over
the next few weeks I may get back to you .
Thanks again.
