New Project
Hi yaul,
Ive now got time for another project and guess what, Im going to use another MX-5, cause they are a wicked car!
Im going to put a 2.5 V6 Paul Radisch engine from a telstar into the little mx, and modify the snot out of it, keeping it N/A.
The question is, does anyone have or know of a MX-5 that is not compliable or has slight front damage?? Any year but pref manual.
Thanks,
Steve

Have you thought of a small block V8? All the Us info says it's an easier and
much gruntier conversion.

Hi,
My Mum has an import MX5. It has suddenly started (or not) not starting. The
engine turns over, but the car won9t start. Any ideas where she should start
looking and if this is something which has happened to other owners.
Hope you can shed some light on the problem!
Cheers

Sounds like another interesting project Steve.
A question for you... how hard is it to modify the 2.5 FWD V6 to RWD?
I'm pretty sure Neil Fraser is running one in his race car but I've seen
various discussions on the conversion and they never make it sound easy or
beneficial.
Sorry... can't help with the donor car.
Cheers.

A sweet KL-ZE 2.5 V6 would be pretty sweet - torquey, and with a nice, smoov exhaust note to boot! ... however I do recall discussions on miataforum which say that it's problematic getting it oiled correctly. I'm assuming the Ford V6 is actually a Mazda block?
There's a parted-out body in Hastings (front hit) and Paul @ Crowleys knows of some more in the 'bays
BTW Steve, got your old system running and dialled in nicely. Surprised a number of "hot" cars at the weekend
, and had no probs keeping up with my mates modified WRX !

i'm thinking of putting a rover v8 into an mx5 end of next year. all
alloy therefore nice and light. i also have a 350 chev with a lot of
ponnies but to put this in would mean heaps of extra changes like
suspension. with the rover the changes would be minimal ... basicaly

You might be surprised at the weight comparison between the Rover and Ford or
Chevy 5 litre. Check Miata Forum, lots of discussion in there.

To convert the FWD engine to RWD means making either a new bell housing or an adapter plate for the gearbox.
As for the oil issues, easy, dry sump it!
A project is not worth it if theres no difficult parts!

They're all sounding kinda exprensive though.
What's the best way to go if you only want to spend about 5K and get a
bit better performance?

Bob Carter is a very nice guy and a real engine expert. We reproduced his
story in a recent Top Down magazine & I had a bit of a conversation with him
about it. I'm sure he'd be happy to give advice.
He was working on an electric MX5, but don't know where he is up to, and he
hasn't updated his website for quite a while.
I believe he has a few other interesting projects at his house...
As an aside, I was reading 'ask bwob' at miata.net recently & the Suzuki V6
is mentioned
http://www.miata.net/askbob/0210.html (2nd to last one)
as is the Honda Type R...

keep us up to date with how the project goes, cheers
