Annoying Dashboard Sqeak

I have a really annoying squeak that seems to be coming from somewhere
behind the instrument panel, but it's hard to tell exactly. It's definitely
not a rattle - it's a squeak and it seems to often occur when there is a bit
of scuttle shake which implies a lateral component (possibly). I have
searched the Miata site for their solutions to common squeaks and rattles
but have not been able to find anything that solves this problem. That site
did however alert me to the rattle that typically comes from that plastic
panel under the steering column and so I have at least stopped that noise.
Has anyone else experienced this squeaking noise and if so did what was it?

it's probably mice. My squeak went away after my cat started sleeping on my
roof.

Seriously though, I found the radio installer had left a few uncut cable
ties which appeared to scratch under the dash - a quick trim meant one less
noise.

Try using your thumb to compress any bit of the (wooden?) trim
around the radio / etc that you can conveniently reach. Might tell
you what the prob is but not how to fix it!
