After work today I popped the cam cover back on (as well as my lead cover of aesthetic pretty pointlessness) and it looks pretty swish. When I went to put on the air return valve at the front, I noticed that the pipe had split at the end that attached to the cam cover (it was 23 years old and the last 2 inches of the rubber pipe had hardened somewhat) so I nipped down to supercheap and grabbed one of these:
I gave it a run and have seen no leaks so far, so seems things went fine

Soooo finally got her all fixed up.
Basically the engine wasnt worth fixing after the sump plug dropped out on the motorway and she seized. It sucks but the good new is the head is okay and I have a new more powerful engine.
So the engine I went for is an NB6C B6-ZE, I went for it as it would be easy to drop in, decent price, low Kms(60,000Kms), and it has solid lifters/higher lift cams which net an extra 10 odd PS.
So It all went in and the timing gears are different so I stuffed up the timing but finally figured it out and now its sorted and running beautifully.
So got everything tested and after a week went out to the first Drift day in a month!
Was my first time with the new engine and also drifting on the new Silk Roads with the 12/10K spring rate.
As you can see much less roll and much more control. As I hadnt drifted for some time and it was a new setup it took a bit to get used to and the suspension still needs some adjustment.
And here is a little video, Had fun chasing everyone. Was just trying to take it easy and keep temps down on tyres and motor. Might have to increase the rake a little as it wasnt quite turning in enough.

So Im happy she is going! I have a drift day every weekend this month so hopefully there will be some more videos and my driving should hopefully improve a bit as well as the cars setup!

great photos
@ Furai - I'm really stoked that things are finally coming together for you, I would hate to have my engine crap out on me like your did, but at least some of it is salvageable so it wasn't a complete loss.
@ Chris - nice to see trolol working again as well, I was gutted for you when she spat the dummy, I am glad you decided to keep her.
just to keep the photo sharing going, here's how my cam cover looks at the moment:

If you don't mind ,what was the bits that needed sorting to make it work ?
Is just a matter of running NA timing gears ?,i know they run the same cambelt kit.
Kinda assumed it wasn't that easy, could be good to be wrong, got a couple of low km 1600's at work

You only need to attatch the CAS sensor key to the camshaft thats it, the timing gears are slightly different but do the timing correct per engine manual you will be sweet.brownie wrote:Furai wrote:Soooo finally got her all fixed up.

Theres definitely more power but having higher lift cams it would no matter the ECU, the economy is better and the power increase is easily noticeable.marcellarius wrote:I do wonder whether it still makes the same power when using the NA6 ECU... The NB6 could be running different fuel and timing maps. Probably not a huge difference though.
You probably wouldn't gain the full 10PS but close to it, Ill do another 0-100 run and see how much faster she is.

We cut it off the NA6 Cam and put it onto the NB6 cam.mazline wrote:Did you change the actual cam ,or does the end of the cam remove, had a look around here and looks like the whole cam needs changing ??,Can't see a removal piece for the key for the CAS to lock into.
The other thing I forgot is you need to use an NA8 Alternator as its a different belt but I havent changed mine yet...
