Advice and questions.
hey guys, firstly i want to introduce myself, my names Marcus, im 17, from Auckland. I plan on buying a NA MX5 sometime in Feburary with all my pay from working in the holidays plus the money from selling my civic (oohh yeeaah). I be wanting to know for ages, do mx5s have auto reclining roofs? i assume they dont but have never asked anyone. Also when it comes to NA's, is there much noticeable difference between a 1800 and a 1600? is it worth trying to get a 1800 or doesn't it really matter? Thanks in advance, im sure this question has been asked before but being a noob i have to live up to what expected of me and asked the same old questions that have been answered 100 times before!!

Nope. The only ones with the auto-reclining roofs are the NC ones and I believe not all have those.
In regards to the 1.8 vs 1.6, I have a 1.8 and a friend has a 1.6 and I don't think I could downsize. the 1.8 has bigger brakes and slightly more chassis bracing underneath and my one has power steering (I'm a lazy driver). Even though the 1.8 has more power, it's still not particularly fast unless you're going around a corner

You'll be more than satisfied with an NA6 if you can't get an NA8. Bigger brakes really don't mean an awful lot when you've only got ~950kg to stop, as long as you have discs in good condition and some good quality pads.
I have all the stopping power I need with TRW pads and new rotors. Chassis bracing will certainly help though, but that same bracing will fit to an NA6 and is readily available for only a few hundred dollars.
Just make sure the crankshaft pulley/nose/key are in good condition if you get an NA6, particularly if it's a 1989 or 1990 model.
