Strange squeal

Post by mikey » Thu May 18, 2006 8:56 pm

Been getting a strange squeal from the engine bay whilst sitting in traffic and idling at lights....

Yes, have changed the belts very recently... no slippage... so they are out...

Was told by someone that it may be the alternator's bearings.. the car has done 180+k's...

Can anyone advise?

:(

My car had a squeal once - in my case it was a clutch problem. If your
car is one of those funny ones without a clutch pedal, then you should
definitely consider other possibilities... :-)

It probably will be the belts . I usually test by squirting some water onto the belts, if the noise goes away (temporarily) then the belts are causing the noise.
