Looking for new seats!

Post by vii » Tue Feb 22, 2011 11:04 pm

Hi,

I'm after a couple of new seats for daily driving and the weekend "spirited drives" thru twisty roads. I don't use it for competitive racing.

Main complaint I have with current seats is that they're too high - when i first got the car, i had to duck to see below the centre mirror.. I've since modified the driver's seat but lateral support is still an issue.

I live about 45 mins from work but i think i will be fine with having bucket seats. I will just use another car if i have to take long trips. (the lack of sound deadening and heat shields don't help with long trips either)

Found only a couple of discussions in the forums though. So the question is, what seats do you have, where did you get it and for how much? What would you recommend? Cheers

I have a Momo T-frame which sits me a lot lower than standard and bolts onto the factory rails pretty easily... picked it up cheap on tardme.

Looking for new seats!

You might find a bucket seat to be a bit too thin across the hips. The MX5 is pretty small in that area and for a seat to fit it'll prob be pretty narrow.

The Cobras (buckets) i'm selling were a tight fit for me, and I'm a skinny-ish guy...  anyway, the other side-bolster style might allow for less anorexic drivers ;)

Theres a seat fitting list on the flyingmiata site ... have a look for it :)

cheers

I'm 95kg and the Momo is fine for me - certainly not as easy to get in and out as the standard seat though. It could also use a bit more lumbar support, but I plan to remedy that with a technologically advanced... cushion.

Having driven on track with standard seats previously there really is no comparison, I wouldn't go back to bracing myself with elbows and knees in the fast corners.

Has anyone tried the bride replicas from seat warehouse? They seem to be of good value - considering i don't really need proper racing seats.

Having a snug fit across the hips might be uncomfortable..
