Respray in Wellington and is it worth it when selling?

Post by drew74 » Mon Nov 15, 2010 2:36 pm

Is it worth doing a respray before putting a car up for sale?? And, can anyone recommend a good car painter down here in Wellington?

My red 91 NA has a bad case of flaking clearcoat down the drivers side and in a few other places too and I'm thinking that a fresh coat of paint will help when I put it up for sale shortly. I'm sure the fresh paint will help with the saleability of the car, but would I make back the money spent with an increased sale price? Any thoughts?? I'm not looking to make a profit on the work, but at least break even on it.

Generally no. Sell it just as it is. A paint job will cost $2.5 - $4k. and the purchaser will wonder what that fresh coat of paint is hiding.

Cool, thanks guys. I had a quote last year in Auckland to respray, that was about $1500. I'm guessing it'd either be crap work or I'd still be waiting now for the guy to finish the work!!
