Pretty hard to know when sent from Japan,Might have been from a car reading 150km on the clock but been put in at 125km?,You just don't know,I will say the photo is diect from the box,no cleaning.
As i did say,No problems with taking them back if found to be no good,Even our man in Japan said these were mint,He knows not to send half sucked suspension any more no matter how flash the brand is.

So,if my mx5 is an occaisional playday track car but a mostly road car why bother with an expensive cert when perhaps i should get some performance coil-overs with lowered springs that dont need a cert?
A penny for your thoughts!

I think you might mean non-adjustable dampers. But yes, dampers and springs are probably a lot easier to setup on a road car - but decent ones won't give you much change from a grand!WideOpenThrottle wrote:So,if my mx5 is an occaisional playday track car but a mostly road car why bother with an expensive cert when perhaps i should get some performance coil-overs with lowered springs that dont need a cert?

Brownie's ones + $350ish cert = a good deal if they're still in good nick. You could always have them put on a shock dyno to check that they're in good condition

I run Bilsteins and progressive springs in my own and happy with that as i only use my car the odd Saturday(Work truck during the week),If was into racing i wouldn't even offer the sell them,Just pay work the money and keep them for myself,Wide open throttle, you seem to have a problem about something you are not interested in ?,
As is turns out i do have a interested party already, and as i have stated ,if there is a problem with them when fitted ,you have right of return ,shipping at buyers cost,Can't get much fairer than that,Easy to fit and try before Cert,Any good Mechanic can whip them in and out in 2 hours.
Got a cool dash cluster listed on T/Me along with Apexi headers for a 1600 ,been gas cut a bit short, make me a offer if keen.
If any one see's any bit on that over charging site with user name ,Mazparts,Don't be afraid to PM me at work(Mazline),More than happy to work something out .
Still digging thru the parts ,will let you guys know if anything else interesting turns up.

JiB, the dampers can be adjustable, it is just the adjustable spring platforms that need certing.JiB wrote: I think you might mean non-adjustable dampers. But yes, dampers and springs are probably a lot easier to setup on a road car - but decent ones won't give you much change from a grand!
TG Sports, classic roadster - modern technology. NA1800, 99 head, 11:1 +2mm Wiseco pistons, Link LEM, Alloy f/wheel, JR headers.
I think perhaps WideOpenThrottle misunderstood me. I think both options offer merits - but I would go for the coilovers that brownie is selling.
brownie's coilovers + $350 cert + $170 cornerweighting (optional) = $1170 +
springs $300 + shocks e.g. koni SA yellow $960+gst = $1300 +
The non-adjustable shocks are dearer - but they would be new and a cert is not required. They would probably be more than enough, depending on the situation.
However, the coilovers would be able to be setup up much more effectively and can be altered to your driving style (assuming the rest of the car was up to it - bushes, links, etc). And I guess I would go for this option as I have my own corner weighting facilities. It becomes even better value for money if one is getting a cert for other modifications already. Furthermore, because brownie is offering a return if not satisfactory - you could get the shocks tested before the cert.
Admittedly, shipping and time is a negative for the coilover route if something goes wrong.

Ok, so this set need a cert, then. Ta.Euen wrote: JiB, the dampers can be adjustable, it is just the adjustable spring platforms that need certing.
[Edit]
It's really tempting if I do not need to pay recent air con repair job. As per daily drive may be opting to non adjustable platform with progressive spring in sometime in the future.

Damn it, I'm gonna have to ask, what is corner weighting?JiB wrote:...I have my own corner weighting facilities.
I have Teins on mine, they are quite a high spring rate (according to what I could find they are 7kg front 6kg rear) but the back one bottomed out the other day on a bumpy corner in Albany. I was surprised as my car is not that low. I have been wondering if I did not put enough pre-tension on the springs them when I set them up as I really didn't know how much is correct.
I assume this is corner weighting? If so I think I need to have a chat with you about getting this done. Unfortunately I broke my collar bone into a few pieces late last year and I can't do these things like this so easily just yet.

Corner weighting as I understand it (others with more knowledge and experience are welcome to correct me) is the following:
Put car on 4-wheel scales on flat surface (preferably with driver in)
Adjust platform-type suspension to equalise L/R weight distribution at each end, or equalise diagonal total weights (read somewhere this can be more effective).
Then you have the basic platform right, and can adjust handling to suit your preference from there with damper rates, ARBs etc.

Good to see lots of discussion on this-you see i,d be dumb enough to buy these only to find out later that the reputable supplier failed to mention that they would need a cert for road use as it,s not mentioned on ad!!!
Sorry Brownie but my initial interest has been tainted by the the Cert/mileage issues.
