oil pressure guage reading low

Post by sprsta » Wed Dec 02, 2009 10:03 pm

i have been noticing recently that my oil pressure guage has only been reading about one bar at idle and about 2 at 3-4 k revs.
i put a proper guage on it today to check and got 26psi at idle so its not so bad but it still should be at least 29psi.
i think i might get a new sender and tee off a pressure switch to have a nice big red oil light, im not planning on another motor just yet.
i have an oil change coming up soon so i think ill go for a 10w rather than a 5w the motor is getting on abit now

think there is any point in spacing the oil pressure spring to compensate?
or just try the heavier weight oil and see how it goes

If you are close to a service I would do it now.
My 1990 MX5 1600 had low oil presure when I got it, did a full service which included a new oil filter (this should be changed at every oil change) and the problem disappeared.
