Repair tear in a soft top

Post by hotkiwi » Mon Nov 30, 2009 1:55 pm

Hi friends,
I have a beautiful 2000 Roadster in red. I have a tear in the soft top, just behind the right side window, about 1 inch long. I notice that within the last week it has grwon from half an inch to a full inch, so quickly want to do something. Is this work for a professional or can I 'patch' this myself ? If so, where do I get such a repair kit as when I went to the car accessory shops today, i only got silly sdvise to just seals it. I suppose to take the tension away from the tear it needs a patch in the inside ?
Cheers

Hi hotkiwi'

Had a similar experience recently with my NB.

If you're local to Christchurch I can recommend a really excellent company that did a really professional same-day repair.

Hi Johan

Because of the tension it does need a professional to fix a tear properly.
I had a similar sized split fixed by All Care in Glenfield. Cost about $20 from memory.

They patched outside and inside both sides (even though it was only drivers side) so that it looked nice and symmetrical, really did a bloody good job - recommend them to anyone.
