Post by PLSEME » Thu Oct 02, 2008 8:34 pm

Yea so im driving home after work & suddenly the motor cuts out ,
Lucky i was just round the corner from home so i called up a mate round the corner to help me get the mighty MX home.
after checking one or two things i took a look in the top of the engine while we turned it over (hey check that out the cams arnt moving)

:( So Cambelt is deffinatly gone as iv just stripped it all apart .
so tomorrow im off on the mission for the parts so i can start putting her back togeather on Saturday
Cambelt
Tentioner pully
Idler Pully
Water pump

Is there anything else people can suggest i should do while im in there :?: ,I am of the understanding these are a non interferance engine :?: & is setting the timing the same as in the 1.6 :?:

Oh yea should mention its a 93 Import 1.8 NA8C,

Thanx for your feed back :D

I have never replaced a cambelt on a 1.8 so can only assume they are the same or similar.
I would recommend getting a new crank nose bolt that bolts the bottom cam belt pulley on.
As you have to torque them up quite high the bolt can "stretch" over time.

While you've got the engine apart anyway, I recommend putting in some forged piston heads, re-boring the engine to 2l, get some new racing cam shafts, chuck a massive turbo in there. Y'know, just some minor things :D

A good coolant flush & maybe new hoses.check & re-gap plugs as required...just a good service opp.
You could get real flash & remove the HLA's to inspect & bleed them.

I would recommend doing the water pump and thermostat while you have it all apart.

If you haven't already got all the bits, BNT do a kit that includes the belt, tensioner bearings, tensioner spring and new cam bearings. All you need in one box.
TG Sports, classic roadster - modern technology. NA1800, 99 head, 11:1 +2mm Wiseco pistons, Link LEM, Alloy f/wheel, JR headers.
