awesome driving road - Banks Peninsula

Post by DaveR » Thu Oct 04, 2007 2:48 pm

I've been promising myself an "MX-5 day" for some time, and last Tuesday was the day. So I set off for Akaroa. I used to ride this road a lot about 25 years ago when I was into bikes, but haven't really "driven" it for years (taking the family over in a family saloon doesn't really count).

What an awesome piece of road! When you drive the MX-5 around town for a while you can start to forget what it's all about. This trip certainly reminded me why I bought one. On the way back I took the long route (Eastern Bays/Summit Rd?). An absolutely fantastic piece of road - and almost deserted too. Top down, sun shining, up and down through the box, heel-and-toeing - what a blast! Can't wait to do it again. Got a bit held up coming down from Hilltop to Cooptown, so I turned around at the bottom and went up and down again - this time with no hold-ups.

Got home tired but happy - and just before it rained, too.

But then I'm sure everyone from Christchurch already knows all about this!

Dave (still grinning!)
