roof clip attachment screw thingys

Post by suburban_ennui » Tue Aug 28, 2007 7:33 pm

I was putting my soft top up yesterday and noticed that the brackets
above the front windscreen had worked very loose, and also that each
bracket was only attached with one screw, not two.

Firstly, I note the screw has an odd, six-sided hole for tightening
... any idea where I can get a screw head/tool which will fit this hole so I can
tighten up the brackets, and

Secondly, can anyone suggest where I can get two extra screws of this type?

Cheers

Lawrence

You can get some little cases with about 100 little screw driver bits inside, I have seen these at Jaycar and Dick Smith, the search engine at Jaycar is crap but the DSE one is good. Make sure the torx (I think) bits are in there, and just put one of these bits into a socket and there you are, just using a screwdriver you can't get it tight enough.

This is the set I have but they are often on special or there are lots of others

Mazda dealers should have them. You might need to get their parts book
out though....

The screwdriver is called a TORX and the size is T40
Dick Smith and Jaycar have kits with these in them for about $40.
Mazspares in Rosebank Rd have the screws.
The screws are M8 x 20mm.

I have 4 which came with the side strikers for my Hardtop. I didn't use them as I had some nice chrome screws instead. I could let you have a couple.

I'm in Massey if that helps, PM me if you are interested. ( have the screwdriver)

A T35 fits too if you don't have the full range - one of my driver kits from Jaycar only has a T35... I just checked before I saw K's post :)
