Plugs for supercharged car

Post by warrior » Tue Feb 04, 2014 3:28 pm

I have been running NGK BKR7E v-power plugs in my supercharged car, it runs 10psi.

One just went and died on me and I need new plugs. What are you turbo guys using and what gap at you running them at?

I am happy to buy the best plugs available if they will last a little longer.

Went ahead with sale but was charged the $4.00 delivery fee (but was over $80.00) and did not see the 10% discount box? Please let me know what I need to do.

The 10% discount is applied permantly when you create your account, so you automatically get it on each order.
It seems the free shipping was set at $80 +gst. I have changed to to $70+gst.
I have modified your order and removed the shipping so the total to pay is $82.80.

What gap should I be running on the platinum plugs in the supercharged car? I was running a .32 with the old plugs.

To small of a gap for the better plugs?

Ideas please

It is not recommended to regap precious metal plugs such as platiunum or iridium plugs. I suspect this is because it may damage the precious metal coating on the tip and electrode. The BKR7EIX have a preset gap of 0.75mm (30 thou)

Plugs for supercharged car

Post by jif » Thu Feb 27, 2014 9:47 am

IIRC - smaller gaps are for where you'd have trouble sparking with a bigger gap.  Iridium/platinum  sparks more easily than regular plugs, so I'd not make the gap any smaller unless absolutely necessary.

If you're still running a wasted ignition (ie stock) one of each of the plug pairs will be firing backwards, so you'd really want the plugs with plat/Ir on both electrodes. eg PFR7A-11 , which ran flawlessly for the turbo. Stock gap is 1.1mm

Hope thats correct ... its been a while.

If you're using the factory waste-spark ignition, single electrode iridium or platinum plugs will have a shorter life than expected because in each pair of plugs, one spark is positive, the other is negative, which will cause the side electrode to wear faster on 2 of the plugs.

One of my "cheap as chips plugs" did not work anymore after two months.

That's why.

Best plugs for the MX5 (and most engines) are
NGK Resistive BKR7E

Anything else is a waste of time and money - and won't work anywhere near as well.
Any decent turbo or supercharged car that comes in for tuning with platinum or similar plugs get changed first thing

Countless times I've have spark blowout or misfiring using platinum/Iridium plugs, that gets fixed right away by replacing cheap copper plugs.

Try and find a race team that doesn't use copper plugs, as they conduct better than anything

Best thing of all - is they are only about $6 each from SUpercheap

If you engine is chewing them out, then there's something else afoot.

I did not say my engine was chewing them out, one plug went bad.
