Wof

VTNZ wbsite says prices vary depending on their lease/location..... User pays. Better deals out South Auckland from one man band operators. Heatd of some who dont even drive the cars. Will not name rhem publicly. Sounds like the ones to vidi if your car is dodgy. Good peace of mind to pass legitimately though.

i normally go to Q's autos in henderson but you have to book.
fair inspection for a fair price of $40
i know of others that are cheaper, but be aware that if they are doing a wof at cost then the likely hood of the car failing increases. recently didnt have the time to drive to Q's so went to VTNZ westgate and it was $52 or $54?, enough to make me be more organised next time and book into Q's

I'm a disorganised student; my wof guy is $40.
Stopped going to vtnz after they kept pulling me up on stupid things for being a young dude. $51 is ridiculous anyway.
Mum's is $25 but that's a book in job.

I reckon the dearest WOF is the one where you take it to that cheap/convenient place and they ding you on questionable things that cost $$$ to fix.    A $50 VTNZ/AA WOF is relatively cheap in that case ... :D

He's the "I'm going to pass you, but you have got to go and get [xyz] fixed" kind.

Happened twice - Front tyres and a steering rack boot. Had them both done within a week.

The most expensive WOF is the one that is cheap and overlooks something that ends up breaking and writing off your car/killing you.

I'm kind of particular about my cars, I won't take them to just anyone, and I always think a WOF may be cheap insurance.

To me a WOF is just a bureaucratic piece of paper and has little bearing to me on how safe my car is. I will go to the cheapest because I trust my own pedantic nature and my mechanics expertise over a guy who gives your car a going over in 15 minutes.

but that's just my opinion.

Yep. I trust Paul who works on the car a lot more than the vtnz people who couldn't identify the supercharger and then fail me on rust that is in no way structural. All the serious problems that actually affect safety have never been picked up by any wof inspection anyway...
That and I'm slowly trying to upgrade the entire car by replacing everything except the shell so they'd have no idea what they're looking at anyway ;-)

After having VTNZ fail me on non structural rust 4 times over I decided wofs are a joke.

Well, there was that, and the fact that I was told from a police officer that a wof is "only valid for the day it's issued" I sat there and said "why do I bother then? If you're going to check my car regardless it's tax collection"

I was scolded. But proven correct that wofs are a joke.

Not really sure how a warrant of fitness could be anything other than "this car was in warrantable condition when inspected and all things going well and staying relatively the same should remain so for the next six months".

But of course we've had this discussion and you don't understand the concept of driving a provocative car provoking inspection ;)

Oh no, I get the point of driving a provocative car. However, if a wof is only valid for one day, then how can I justify spending $50 every six months for a sticker that says "This car is road legal (for the day this sticker was applied)"
To me, it makes no sense. However, my argument is a very specialized one as I was pulled over every second day (on average) for a month.
