Draining fuel tank NA6

Post by GRUVBB » Sun Aug 04, 2013 12:03 pm

I am currently pumping the stale fuel out of my NA6 via the fule pump. Was wondering what is theBEST elevation for the car to be sitting at to try and reclaim as much as possible. It is currently on a slope facing downwards. I am unsure of where the pump is in relation to the tank.... All i know is there are 3 possable answers. Flat/level or nose elevated or rear elevated..... Thanks for the information already supplied regarding fuel pump bridging and bleeding. :?:

Keep going until yours doesn't drain anymore then try the other 2 options. Profit

Draining fuel

Post by GRUVBB » Sun Aug 04, 2013 12:37 pm

I thought of that but its difficult pushing car by oneself on a hill.... Its stopped pumping now so purchasded some 98 octane. Will throw some of that in and repump till runs dry again and top up.will hopefully be able to drive to mates hoist to gain access to replace filter... Coulddo with an Olsen twin to slip under to get at the filter about now.

Most will come out when dead flat.
NA cars have a tank drain plug which is the best way to ensure you get all of the fuel out.

Fuel drain

Post by GRUVBB » Thu Aug 15, 2013 7:05 pm

Finally got around tuit and completed fuel drain. Took Ross advice and removed drain plug. Handy parking on a hill at times if you have the right gear. Car ramps to elevate the rear of the car as i could not get hold of an olsen twin to slip under for me. Removed drain plug and filter and replaced with a new on for piece of mind. Filter cost me $34. I could not be bothered trying to find one cheaper as it was just up the road. Added fresh gas and primed fuel lines thanks to Gary information. Turned the key and car jumped back into life. Has been sitting or at least a month neglected. My new toy a CRF has taken precidence for past 2 months. Off for a WOF tomorrow amd we are cruising again. Fingers crossed that is. May get snapped on a hazy boot lens. Ordered a replacement anyway from Ross.
