Water pump?

Post by warrior » Sun Jun 30, 2013 1:52 pm

Just changed the radiator fluid etc and now it is leaking fluid, I think it may be the water pump. Is this common when the car is getting on a bit? How can I tell if it is the pump?

Where is the best place to get a new water pump from and what else should I do while the parts are apart?

Sounds like your chasing the same leaks im slowly sifting through.
How big is the leak? Like a drip every few secs or a constant stream?

Water leak

Post by GRUVBB » Sun Jun 30, 2013 9:21 pm

When i changed my thermostat on purchase I found that my new gasket weeped for a couple of weeks. It has since stopped. Good news for me but does not help your situation probably.i would have thought that a dodgy pump would only leak back into itself. Maybe the faces are pitted or gasket is failing. Have not pulled m y pump out yet will do that when cam needs attention or a surprise birthday.

A drip every few seconds. It is worse when the engine is running. Will work through a few things but does look like the pump to me.

Something that would be handy in out situations would be a cooling system pressure tester, might see what they are worth tomorrow, would speed up our diagnosis on our cars by a heap

Hi Peter, I will have a good look in the weekend and if it is the pump I will be getting a pump and timing belt etc off you. I will be in touch if I need it.

Hey warrior, those prices by broomfish are pretty good unless you can get trade price from repco.
I would recommend that you go with the gmb one as they are meant to have better castings and mine came with 2 gaskets and an o-ring.

It's not an overly difficult swap, just time consuming.
I just did mine yesterday and it took a few hours.

She's definitely a big ol' job, used the same technique as above to keep cams in place. Just make doubley sure they don't move as you wrestle on the cambelt, took us a few goes to get everything lined up.

That first start up after is definitely a good feeling haha
