Clutch Ideas?

Post by TehAshleigh » Thu Jun 06, 2013 1:20 pm

Hi! :)

This weekend i am going to be fixing the hum in my release bearing - since im there i was looking at getting a new clutch put in. Has anyone got any reccomendations? Im wanting something other than stock, that will be practical for daily use but will be able to handle a few kicks here - when im happy with what i have ill eventually be wanting to learn to control it on skid pads etc.

Also, my old clutch has about half its life left in it, if anyone wants it for a cheap price!

Note: Not being a dick before flame.

First thing, I wouldn't worry about the hum in the release bearing, just about every mx will get one.

Clutch wise, if you are running stock power I see no reason to go for anything other than an OE replacement?

Chris is correct. Stick with OEM.

I have heard that "Hum" Its not a hum haha more of a squeal when in reverse. Sounds like a stuffed bearing.

Make sure you get a clutch kit from BNT or Exedy with alignment tool and release bearing.

Also get the fly bearing.

If you want something that will last and take abuse, go for an autoclutch one like i did(just not the same as me as a 6 puk clutch is a little annoying to daily)

So thats what that squeal was... I had it when downshifting every now and again. I haven't heard the noise for months now though, so I'm not sure if I should be worried or happy.

Uh oh haha. If it comes up again I suggest checking. Cole suggested I look into it. It has been.gerting worse over time, started as a hum, then a whine, now squeals. :(

Any decent clutch probably won't be available by the weekend. Save your money for a fidanza flywheel and clutch happy meal from flying miata

Mine was quite intermittent, and it was only ever a squeal. Haven't heard it since last year though so fingers crossed.
