Cleaning/painting an engine

Post by Snapfrozen » Wed May 29, 2013 9:51 pm

Hey team,

Currently cleaning/painting my spare long block. Would you paint under where the exhaust and intake gaskets sit or mask it some how? If so how?

I dont have an old gasket as they were farked...

I am not an expert by any means, but I would paint it all....
I would however make sure to use high temperature engine enamel paint.

I know bunnings sells whiteknight brand engine enamel but I am sure pretty much any paint stockist would have viable alternatives.

Also, it's a SNC.. Do I paint around/behind the pullet as best I can or remove it and take my chances?

without seeing it firsthand, I would try painting around it using a cut out cardboard shield to reduce overspray.

I like using the thin rigid cardboard such as used in cereal boxes as opposed to corrugated cardboard which can be trickier to shape.

You could smear a bit of oil or Vaseline onto where you do not want the paint to stick and then wipe it clean after paint has cured

I have painted an engine in my old rx3 and just put some masking tape over the exhaust/inlet manifold holes then cut around the tape with a razor blade.........done
