Rocker Cover Gaskets NA 1.6

Post by GRUVBB » Wed May 22, 2013 4:19 pm

Just priced a genuine rocker cover gasket replacement at $81 from JohnnAndrew. Has anyone had joy with aftermarket counterfeit or is best to bite the bullet and get a ridgy didgy. I want the oil leak to stop completely so am thinking genuine is best. Any comments from you guys who have done a few of these please?

Personally I wouldn't go aftermarket on something like this.

Unless I had a NEED to. I.e. I was making to much power for the factory gasket (if that is even possible)

Wont make a skerrick of difference where you get it from [unless its from the tip]...make sure all your surfaces are clean and put silicone in the corners where the cams are.

I don't think there is a major need to go genuine on these cars,

I'd rather save money on my car, and buy a 35$ gasket from bnt,
then a 80$ one.

But, for our race cars, we always try to use genuine.

Neither will leak, it's a seal.
Tourqe the bolts right and you'll be fine.

non genuine ones go harder quicker,Genuine new are good for years maybe up to 10,aftermarket are good for a couple depending on usage,Comes down to how long you intend to own the car and if you can be bothered doing it again and what you can afford

And dont assume that by going "genuine" that its what you are getting.
My local Toyota workshop gets much of their parts from BNT as well!
How do i know?.. they have told me and i may as well go there direct plus i have seen them in there buying parts.

Rocker gasket

Post by GRUVBB » Thu May 23, 2013 1:46 pm

Thanks everyone. I got one from a similar outlet. Their list price was $80.99 which is same as JohnnAndrew. Got a discount down to $53.95. It's a JN752 so links up with info supplied here. I'm running with this one. It does say on packaging not to use sealant on rubber or cork gasket. this one is rubber. Is it ok to place a small amount at cam corners to hold in place while tightening down.... Conflicting info does my head in. :? Obviously do not want it to slip out

I think it means not to use sealant over the whole gasket mating surfaces but i would still put a dab in each cam corner at the hoop parts.

My $60.05 retail price also does, when will you guys learn that bnt is one of the most expensive trade suppliers around?

Hi,
It was 35+ or something.

Maybe I got lucky..

But we do get a pretty sweet discount from our local BnT,
Always haggling prices after we find how much they are else where.
They're just convenient.

BNT have been very good here in tauranga.
much cheaper than the dealer and other parts places here.
(and they actually manage to get the correct part which is nice)

I guess i am spoiled for choice. I have access to the big 5 trade suppliers so i know who is good for which parts (its what i do for a living)

i just added the Payen brand JN752 which has recently become available from a wholesaler priced at $32.68!

Bnt are good to me on service and availabilty and when it comes to competition in Kumeu i have a choice of BNT,BNT or BNT...otherwise its time and fuel going to any other decent car parts outlet!

And half the time they'll charge you the same amount or more again on top of the original cost. Pisses me off since all they do here is take it to the depot for the rural post people to drop off anyway!

Ugh

That definitely sucks.

Get a BnT price,
If its crap, ring around then get back to them sayin
Bla bla is selling at this price..

Maybe..
Is what we do.
