Autoway roll bar

Has anyone fitted one of these from these guys in Hamilton? I have a sports bar from mx5 mart but would like to do a bit of track work soon so need a roll bar. They are quoting $375.00 so it seems like a fair price? Any ideas on this bar or are there better ones out there?

Also there is one on trade me, single side so no protection for the passenger. But it does not look strong enough to me as it only bolts onto the seat belt towers with what looks like very small bolts.

Got my one custom made and welded in for $500. And it can be all msnz homologated etc.

Weld in is not for virgins/people that care about resale

I have a "Don Bar" in my car, they are pretty simple to fit, not so sure how well it will work in a roll over, but better than nothing I guess.

I got mine about 2 years ago, not sure whether he has changed the design or not, but you have to drill a few holes in behind the seats and fiddle around bolting it to a plate, and then drill a couple of holes just behind the seat belt towers and bolt on there.

Happy for you to have a look at it if you want to, you loose a bit of room as far as pushing the seat right back, so if you one of these tall individuals that insist they can squeeze into an MX5, then it might not be the most ideal.

I've also had another bar added to it, to put the race harnesses onto it.

Lol who gives a shit about re-sale when it comes to an MX5 with a cage, if it fits under a hardtop thats great. Why not make the car safer and more secure.

Where did you get yours done? I wouldn't mind an MSNZ approved weld-in half cage.

Is this a true roll bar? Is there anthing in the rear parcel shelf to bolt the rear stays too?

It looks like the rear stays just sit on top of the parcel shelf, which would mean they do bugger all. For ones with rear stays, the need to go thru the parcel shelf and bolt to the bottom of the boot, where there is more strength there.

Have a look in the how to section where I posted some photos etc of my installation....I think for the price its good: Functional, if a little ugly.

Installation wasn't super hard but did take a while...make sure you have a good drill and a sharp/hard bit for drilling the extra holes as the metal is very tough.

Get a stepper drill bit, made the job a million times easier for drilling up by the seatbelt towers.
