Workshop in Auckland

Post by Transient » Tue Apr 23, 2013 5:27 pm

Hi people

I have a turbo engine swap project and want to find a good place to have the work done. I'd appreciate any tips on good workshops.

Thanks for your help.

Kel

What work needs to be done? Turbo kit install, whole engine swap from another car, wiring, ecu, tuning?

Hi Serena - I've bought an 89 wreck with a built engine, IHI turbo and Link ECU. I want to put it in my 97 NA 1800.

 thats the funniest attempt at my username yet

Sounds like a fairly straight forward job, engine, loom and ecu straight transplant into your current car.
Not sure where in auckland hes located but i think 2low2c(member on here) does that sort of thing.

Sorry Siren676 - I blame the software. I remember a friend once trying to say something naughty, but all her phone would come up with was "aunt"!

Now why would someone introduce homosexuality into a thread where I was hoping someone might give me the name of a good workshop? Sigh.

So now we move on to being rude about trans people? Why? I thought this was an MX5 forum, not some place for people to rag on gays and trans people.

I know these guys are in Hamilton but AUTOWAY SERVICES I think it is called are MX5 experts and the owner Don is a good guy and knows his stuff. It may be worth a trip with the car there as it is going to be in the shop for a while with what you want to do.

They are fair with there prices and like I said know there stuff. Give Don a call and have a chat to him.

i have too many things on my plate at this point in time, your best bet would be to contact Paul (2LOW2C as mentioned previously) he has a nice little workshop and can do pretty much anything 09 4414579

Fantastic. Thanks for the help. Forgive me if I sounded prickly. Been on the Miata Turbo forum trying to get some information and my patience was wearing thin! Thanks again.

its not totally straight forward. the wiring is very different. your 1800 has different ignition/injector/afm and throttle position sensor wiring. your gonna have to swap the entire loom or get some creative wiring going on. keep your 1800 gearbox and diff. not sure what clutch its running but an 1800 hd is the best way to go as the 1800 has a larger clutch

miata turbo is not newbie friendly...you need to use te search function before asking newb questions or youll get flamed

" can i just dump in a GTX engine/" and "whats the best way to turbo a miata" fuck get me a gun already.

anyway Kel your gonna have to do o\your homework as theres gonna be a big labour bill. your gonna have to decide whether it will be cheaper to pull the dash out and change the enire loom or simply rewire your connections at the ecu to match up with your 1800 loom. for instance changing back to a 1600 loom you will loose your 1800 sequentail injection and the ignition wiring will need to be modified. it may be more cost effective to sell the link and buy a 1800 specific megasquirt ECU
