Intake Manifold

Post by Angreal » Tue Nov 06, 2012 12:01 pm

I'm too lazy to google this (had a quick try then gave up). The mx5 NA intake manifold is cast iron right?

No I'm pretty sure they're cast aluminium. Same material as the head itself. Only the block is cast iron.
Cool sunroof bro...

:( Hmmm the guys next door won't weld in a bung if it's aluminium. I guess I'll just high temp tape the intake temp sensor somewhere near the exhaust / intake pipe as a temporary measure until I get the blower strapped in.

It could be because its cast aluminimum and I believe cast ali doesn't weld that well. Could you tap a hole and screw it into the manifold?

I could but I'm too lazy and will go with Plan B for 6 weeks until I replace everything over the Christmas break. I'll sort out a more permanent solution somewhere between the SC and the engine

You need a special type of welder to weld cast aluminium, needs to be really low heat and they might not have the right gear. Try someone else cos it is possible to do.

Cheers for that but i'll just leave my sensor close to the intake. Swapping over to the hydra this weekend which has the sensor. will set it up and get it running before supercharging over Xmas which will replace the intake manifold hence the lazy plan b of strapping the sensor somewhere vaguely close to the intake pipe for 6 weeks or so
