Night Speed Drag Wars Round One 2nd November
Hey All,
Night Speed Drag Wars round One is on Friday 2nd November at Fram Autolite Drag State Hiway 1 Meremere.
Hoping not too be the only MX5 down there! Maybe cruise down there together? I will be racing in order to get a before time prior to the new motor going in over Christmas.
Racing is only $30 with REG and WOF both Current.
Here's some basic 101's to the Fram Autolite Dragway Rules.

Hope to see you there!

My best quarter in my EG civic was 13.2. I understand its a very different setup car but to give you an idea.
140kw@wheels
950kg
Semi slicks
Coilovers
Short ratio gearbox (+ torque nom nom)
Etc...
Not an easy thing to even run a 13. I would imagine a factory engined MX5 with semi's and chassis mods to run a 15-16. Turbo might do a 12-13 if you can get traction.
An LS... Hmmm, honestly, if you can't keep traction all the way to 3rd, youll be slower than factory

And let's say you run an 11 and they say "Don't come back without a cage" you've got the most insane fucking bragging rights... an 11 second MX5Donovan wrote:Maybe, might be interesting to see what the car actually runs at in a straight line.
I assume a 11sec run for the cut off is stupidly fast and there is no chance of getting anywhere near that?? I don't know anything about 1/4mile sprints and times

did one of these events back when I had my old 1.6 turbo setup.
1.6
5 speed
Greddy turbo kit
12psi
195/50/15 shitty street tires
5degrees rear camber
best time was a 13.75, with no traction for first or most of second.
good for shits and giggles tho. best part is entering the burnout comp at the end, haha

hi Donovan,
try plugging your numbers into one of those online drag time calculators(google it) ... guesstimating you at 2500lb and 400 fwhp gives an 11.3 ET ... :]

Yes you are correct however does you friend have an MX5? This rule is for Convertablies. I was sure It was 11sec too but was imformed at the last meet .siren676 wrote:Pretty sure the cut off is 11 secs for the cage requirement. A friends car has run numerous 12 and a bit second quarters and doesn't have a cage

That is EXTREMELY optimistic. He would need to be running drag slicks and have no wheel spin. For someone who doesn't option drag, its not likely to happen.jif wrote:hi Donovan,

Calculator puts my EG at 12.6 second quarter. Never broke 13 seconds in over 20 runs and consisitently hit within .5 of a second of my best time.Snapfrozen wrote:That is EXTREMELY optimistic. Ah didnt know there was a convertible rule. Nah hes running in a ep71 starlet which would probably act like paper mache in an accident.REDBEN wrote:Yes you are correct however does you friend have an MX5? This rule is for Convertablies. 1990 NA6C MX5
Getting traction would be my biggest problem, having a shot diff that won't lock up, and skinny (205) semi slicks that don't take much of a prod of the pedal to overcome them, I would guess low 13's maybe with a lot of squirming around all over the place.
Not to mention I wouldn't want to launch too hard, as I don't know what would break.
Might give it a go, just as you say, for a bit of a giggle.

The look on people's faces when the hairdressers car runs a 13 and sounds like a V8 would be worth itDonovan wrote:Getting traction would be my biggest problem, having a shot diff that won't lock up, and skinny (205) semi slicks that don't take much of a prod of the pedal to overcome them, I would guess low 13's maybe with a lot of squirming around all over the place.
