Lightening stock flywheel

Post by halberd » Mon Oct 01, 2012 11:03 pm

Is it possible?

Is it worth it?

Also as a side note my clutch has just shit itself, are there any decent aftermarket clutches or should I stay with OEM? My budget is student mode so best value for money is required

There is a guy selling Exedy clutches for $190 on Trade Me. Best price I have found. There is also someone selling a Ginken sports clutch for $380.

If your prepared to spend some cash you could get a Heavy duty clutch, street disk Pressure plate and a streetlite flywheel it will act similar to oem on the road and take alot more abuse and be more fun

Put in an 1800 one [clutch & flywheel] at least while you have the chance....i have an 1800 HD exedy now in mine with no issues.
If you ever increase HP then its one less thing to worry about.

before turbo i had a lightened 1600 flywheel and it made a noticeable difference.
if you are replacing the clutch then its a worthwhile mod.

I took around 2 pounds off my standard one, then balanced the flywheel and clutch as one unit.
This was about 8 years ago and I haven't had an issue at all.
The only grumble I would have, is that it has lost a little bit of torque from the flywheel down low when you are trying to manuouver out of a carpark or garage etc. But it does make a difference when building the revs up!
