Post by na6*dori » Tue Sep 11, 2012 11:41 pm

just rebuilt the engine and first start went fine, as normal, except the hla's are still tapping even after a drive, any ideas?

Mine was noisy too for a few starts but quiet as now...did you pump them up with oil on installation?
Were they new or reco'd?
What oil are you using?..i got running-in oil as supplied by the engine re-builder.
I am sure you will find they come right in a wee while.

Three options that you have depending on how long it goes on for.

Do nothing
Try an oil change
Take apart the head and check for blockages/stickyness on the HLAs and their ports.

not a new pump, filled it before pre start, head cannot be blocked i know that for a fact, im running 30grade run in oil and a cheap filter, what im thinking is that the pressure releif valve in the filter is causing a lower oil pressure aswell as the grade of oil used causing the hla's to be tapping, its not tapping to the point that im worried and if after the running in period and oil and filter change it will sort it
