Alrighty.. I will look into it! And I go on holiday tomorrow (YUSS!) so I will start drafting ideas on holiday
I believe it is do-able, my only question is what material do I make the base (under the carpet) out of..

That 4mm alumacore sign board stuff might be good. Apparently it bends if you use a radius......easy to drill, cut and even tap (I think)...
I have some to re do my trial intake / exhaust shield with but haven't got round to that either!!

alumabond wont do that tight radius.
it can do large radius stuff but anything under 100mm bend radius is dodgy. just use normal aluminium sheet 2mm or so.

MDF covered in OEM style carpet I've seen it done before and it looks good
Just have to make up a MDF frame to match the height of the tombstone then cover it in carpet cut hole for window switch and gear shift
I'll try find the pics

Yup id use some MDF as well. Make the MDF part (or parts), then cover with some 10mm thick foam. That way when you cover it with the carpet you get a nice soft cover for resting your arm on, and the corners will be nicely radiused.

NB interior swap

Solves that problem and I'm 99% of the way to completion after a year since starting the swap... Just need to wire up the electric mirrors to the switch properly
